Sixteen is a perfect square, in terms of integers. It’s the age you can get a driver’s license. The number of ounces in a pint. Joe Montana’s number. The fourth number in the ominous number sequence from Lost. Or, to a Ferrari Formula 1 fan, it is the number of constructor’s championships the manufacturer has won since the award was created for the 1958 season.

Technically, the Ferrari 599 Fiorano HGTE isn't a new model, for the HGTE (Handling Gran Turismo Evolution) part is just an option pack. To be really pedantic, an accessory pack rather than an option pack, as you can have the substance of it retro-fitted by your friendly Ferrari dealer. But the point is it feels like a new model.

The late Paul Newman. James Garner. Steve McQueen. Clint Eastwood. James Coburn. Hollywood's car guys of the 1960s and 1970s. They played hard together-on and off the silver screen. Cars, bikes, and racing were woven into many of their films. Newman once raced a Ferrari Daytona owned by Eastwood. McQueen and Garner raced against each other in Baja. They are studs from a time, as Archie Bunker put it, "When girls were girls and men were men."

We know that your automotive Christmas wish list is probably filled with Ferrari Scud Spiders and Nissan 370Zs, but if you’re needin’ something a bit more sensible, how about the Fiat Bravo with a lovely new diesel engine? Yes, Fiat’s Focus-rival is getting a new two-litre turbodiesel, and it sounds like a proper cracker.

Tom Ford drove the new Ferrari California yesterday, and sent us a text about it. Today, he sent us a more slightly more 'proper' review. Via email and everything... 'So I wasn’t convinced by the press shots, and the thought of a more gentle Ferrari made me wince. But, thank the Lord, the California is a brilliant thing. 'The new 7-speed gearbox is ace, the 454bhp V8 engine is torquey, revvy and very, very loud, the handling is tight and extremely Ferrari. It might not be the fastest car in the range, or the most extreme in the ‘sporting’ stakes, but it works and puts a smile on your face just as broad as any of the others. Which is a big win, in my book.

Ferrari fans rejoice, we have the first solid piece of evidence that Ferrari is working on a new Dino. These exclusive pictures show the first real prototype of the new car. Disguised as it is, it doesn’t yet give away so much but a taste of what will become. What identifies the test car as the Dino is the engine sound, or lack thereof. It clearly doesn’t sound as sharp as a F430 for example. The original Dino was built between 1968 and 1976, and its name honours the founder Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino “Dino“ Ferrari, who died in 1956 at the age of 24 from a muscular dystrophy.

Ferrari Aurea arose from a graduation thesis with the support of Ferrari engineers.  The Aurea Project was born from the desire to place the F1 DNA on a normal car. With the teamwork of Ferrari's Product Engineers, the project saw a good deal of modification to become a sports car heir to the 360 Modena.
